Earth Day 2025

Today is Earth Day, an annual event that was established in 1970. According  to The New York Times Almanac 2010, it "marks the birth of the modern environmental movement" and "is meant to encourage preservation of the environment."

Earth Day is a part of Earth Week, which also includes Arbor Day. Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday of April and has as its aim the preservation of trees. This year Arbor Day falls on April 25.

Commemorating Earth Day

Today is Earth Day. Yesterday I went to the post office and bought a sheet of 20 postage stamps that commemorate Earth Day.

Let's honor and protect the Earth, our home.

How Hot Is It In Hell?

During past heat waves, I remember hearing religious zealots say when people complained about the heat, "Hell is hotter than this." I don't know how they knew that unless they'd been to Hell and back, an unlikely occurrence.

Plus, I've heard that there are microorganisms on Earth that can survive in extreme temperatures. If such a place as Hell exists, would these microorganisms survive and thrive in such a hostile, uncomfortable environment?
